The main purpose of A Lightning Protection System is to protect a building or facility from the damage that may occur due to lightning strikes. The Lightning Protection System intercepting such strikes and provide safe passage for extremely high currents to ground. A lightning protection system includes a network of Air Terminals, Bonding Conductors and Earthing System. The Earthing System provide low resistance path to ground for heavy lightning current passes during potential strikes which reduces the heating effect of current flowing through flammable structural materials.
The majority of lightning protection systems in use today are of the traditional Franklin design. The fundamental principle used in Franklin-type lightning protections systems is to provide a sufficiently low impedance path for the lightning to travel through to reach to ground without damaging the building. This is accomplished by surrounding the building in a kind of Faraday cage. A system of lightning protection conductors and lightning rods are installed on the roof of the building to intercept any lightning before it strikes the building.
When Lightning Strike on building, lightning current shall divide into every possible conductive path leading to ground, and even the divided current can cause damage. Because of the very high energy and current levels associated with lightning (currents can be in excess of 150 KA), and the very rapid rise time of a lightning strike, no protection system can guarantee absolute safety from lightning. However E – Link Lighting Protection Systems are designed as per IS 2039 and IEC 62305 and IEC 62561. We have wide range of Lightning arrestor with different length and material suitable for different environment. For normal atmosphere we suggest Copper Coated Lightning Arrestor with 250 micron Copper Bonding Thickness while for area where high moisture is present or for polluted are or for all kind of area we suggest Lighting Arrestor made from SS 304 Material. We also provide pure Copper Lighting Arrestor. We visit your site and provide customised solution as per requirement of Customer design and Facility.
Mast For Lightning Arrestor
Lightning Arrestor with mast is an effective way to protect a wide variety of fixed and portable installations from lightning damage. They are different from structure mounted forms of lightning protection as they are made of a single long mast which is raised to a height typically from 10 to 23 feet (3 to 7 meters).
Lightning mast is insulated by Heavy duty insulation which require for safety of Structure with where mast was installed. Many times Mast is directly connected with Lightning Arrestor but it is separated from Structure using Insulating Rubber pad as well as insulating fastener but many time it is not insulated Properly so we at E Link have Developed Heavy Duty Robust Insulator for electrically Disconnect lightning arrestor from Mast which is easy to install and Transport. This solution Control Major problem of insulation between Lightning Arrestor And Lightning Support Mast.
We All Know that as length of mast increases, Area Of protection from lightning is also increasing. So we can use Lower Heighted Lightning Arrestor with Long Mast and cover Major area for avoiding vibration issue of Lightning Arrestor at height.
E Link Lightning Masts are Made from Hot Dip Galvanized material for longer life in adverse atmosphere. They are provided with Base Plate having Heavy Thickness. For heighted mast we provide Guying Wire Kit so that in case of abnormal Wind velocity it is getting protected.
Lightning masts are usually not mounted on to the object that they protect. They are designed to protect well above the protected area, and are placed near, but not touching the protected objects. Lightning currents are conducted away into a ground system, rather than into the object. This is the opposite of the action of traditional “lightning rods”. They are attached to a protected structure and appurtenances and rely on the conductivity of metal portions of the structure, through grounding wires, to conduct lightning currents away safely with respect to fire damage.
Lightning masts provide a much greater degree of protection to controllers, electrical devices, and other critical equipment than do traditional systems. They may also be combined with traditional structural systems to provide “spot” protection to HVAC systems, communications gear, and other structure mounted assets.
